Meet the Director
Phil Mazza is the founder and director of the Providence Guitar Academy. A composer and jazz guitarist by training, Phil has spent most of his career balancing the worlds of guitar instruction, performance, composition, and jazz. Phil holds a BA in jazz performance and an MM in classical composition from the University of Rhode Island, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is a recipient of various grants such as the Bobby Hackett Jazz Scholarship and the Antonio Cirino Memorial Art Education Fellowship from the RI Foundation.
Phil is a dedicated music educator and advocate with over 15 years of experience teaching guitar to students of various ages and experience levels. After years of teaching guitar, composition, and piano in various schools, colleges, and music academies, Phil decided it was time to use his experience to form the Providence Guitar Academy in the Summer of 2017. The goal of Providence Guitar Academy is to provide quality guitar instruction to students of all ages and levels, and in turn, make a positive and impactful contribution to the Providence east side community through the encouragement of creative arts. |
