A New Location
The Providence Guitar Academy now has a place to call its home! We are officially sharing a building with Angel Care Montessori School located at 150 Waterman St., on the east side of Providence minutes from Wayland Square and Thayer street. We are thrilled to be part of the east side community, and look forward to bringing value and positivity through teaching and promoting the love of music. We couldn’t be more excited to have found a space for the Providence Guitar Academy! |

Pet of the Month
Meet Ernie, the resident Providence Guitar Academy Yorkie. Well... he's not really a resident of the school, but he does live at home with the owners, Phil and Carla. Ernie loves to listen to music and watch nature documentaries. He's also a big fan of bananas and going outside - as seen in the picture! Do you have a cool, funny, or peculiar dog, cat, or critter? Send us a picture of you with your pet, and you could be featured in an upcoming newsletter! email info@providenceguitaracademy.com |
Music is Good for You: My Story
by Phil Mazza (Director-Providence Guitar Academy)
It comes as no surprise to me that learning a musical instrument has many positive effects on brain function and academic skills. I remember when I first started learning guitar and reading music. It was difficult at first, and like many students there was the initial struggle that was both discouraging and frustrating at times. But once I got over the proverbial hump, it started to get more fun, make more sense, and I began to progress at rapid speeds. I enjoyed reading music so much that I decided to study music theory and harmony (aka the nuts and bolts of music). To my surprise, my performance in my math classes also started to improve... by a lot! Was this just correlation? Maybe it was, but maybe not. I was never a math wiz, but I was never a natural either. To this day I recall how much easier advanced math such as statistics and calculus came to me after learning how to read music and studying music theory. This is just one of the many benefits music has on the brain.
Check out this cool article that backs up my little story and dives a little deeper into some of the other benefits!

A Busy Offseason for the Boston Celtics
by Phil Mazza (Director-Providence Guitar Academy)
by Phil Mazza (Director-Providence Guitar Academy)
Those of you that know me are aware that the one true hobby I have is being an NBA fan.
Specifically, since I first picked up a basketball as a kid I have been massive Boston Celtics Fan. Which only became more massive after the Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen in 2007. Then even MORE so when they won banner 17 that same year! The team has seen many ups and downs since then, but things are definitely trending upwards for the Celtics after this summer. |
The Celtics by all accounts overachieved last year by making it to the Eastern Conference Finals before loosing to Lebron James and the Cavaliers. But still, this Summer has seen some BIG changes for the Boston Celtics. They won the draft lottery, traded the first pick and drafted freshman Duke star Jayson Tatum, signed one of the premier small forwards in the League in Gordon Hayward, and recently traded the beloved “Little Guy” aka Isaiah Thomas for Kyrie Irving. Whew, all that in one breath! The team is going to have a brand new look and style with only 4 players from last years roster coming back to training camp. What an exciting time to be a Celtics fan. Look forward to me writing a lot in the coming months reporting on the Celtics.
